January 09, 2009, (Sawf News) – Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone walked the red carpet for Chandni Chowk To China New York City Premiere on January 8.

In tune with the theme of the film, Deepika charmed in a Manish Malhotra ensemble – a mandarin collar crystal embellished sleeveless top with a matching mermaid inspired skirt, and a coordinated dupatta in turquoise.

Her long dark straight hair was swept away from the face and tied in a ponytail at the back that draped her right shoulder.

She accessorized with exquisite round pearl drop earrings and twin bangles in her right arm. Her thick arched eyebrows were accentuated by dark smoky eye makeup. Cherry lip color, a green and crystal bindi matching her dress and French manicured extra long acrylic nails rounded off her red carpet look.

Akshay Kumar was accompanied at the event by his wife Twinkle Khanna.

The team is now en route to the Toronto premiere of the film on January 9 at AMC Yonge & Dundas Square, which will be followed by premiere at London on January 12 at Empire, Leicester Square before returning to India for premieres in Delhi and Mumbai!

Deepika features in a dual role in the film. She plays Meow – a sexy and brash girl, and Sakhi – who is very tacky with over-the-top makeup. They’re contrasting personalities, but very interesting.

For her action role in the film Deepika was trained in jiu-jitsu, a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting.

Chandni Chowk to China is an action-comedy about a lowly Mumbai cook who is mistaken for a martial arts hero. It’s a story inspired by Akshay Kumar’s real life.

The first ever Bollywood Kungfu comedy takes you on a madcap journey from the by-lanes of Chandni Chowk in Delhi, to Shanghai, the Great Wall and rural China and is replete with hilarious gags, breathtaking action, spectacular locations, and over the top emotions.

Distributed by Warner Bros., the film is due in theaters on January 16.
