LOS ANGELES (AFP) - The "Pirates" sequel earned 62.3 million dollars from Friday through Sunday, taking its US receipts from the first 10 days of release to 258.4 million dollars, said the Exhibitor Relations box office tracker.
It has earned about 380 million dollars around the world.
"Pirates", which also features British actors Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, has now overtaken "X-Men: The Last Stand" as the biggest grossing film of the year.
"X-Men" took in 232 million dollars in its first seven and a half weeks on show.
"Pirates" has already set the record for the best opening weekend, taking in 135.6 million dollars, shattering the 114 million dollars debut by "Spider-Man 2" in 2002.
Depp's swashbuckling antics did not stop total receipts falling against the same week in July, 2005 -- the first fall in eight weeks. The total receipts for the top 12 films came to 150.1 million dollars, down from 155.7 million last year.
The comedy "Little Man," starring brothers Keenen, Marlon and Shawn Wayans, which tells the story of a thief posing as a child, was far behind in second place, earning about 21.6 million dollars.

"The Devil Wears Prada," with Meryl Streep playing an ice cold fashion magazine czar, ranked fifth with earnings of 10.4 million dollars.
The remaining films finishing in the top ten were the animated "Cars" taking in 7.8 million dollars, the comedy "Click" with 7.3 million dollars, the romantic film "The Lake House" at 1.7 million; the Jack Black comedy "Nacho Libre" at 1.6 million dollars, and sci-fi drama "A Scanner Darkly" at 1.3 million.
